Overview, Essential Duties, and Responsibilities:

Overview

The Supply Chain Manager plans, directs, and coordinates the storage, inventory, purchasing, planning and distribution operations within the organization. Oversees the efficiency of receiving, storing, testing, and shipping products in a continuous improvement-based environment and maintains a safe work environment. Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, developing and mentoring department personnel for the branch. Responsible for supervising departmental personnel including the Purchaser, Purchasing Agent, Plant Production Planner as well as leaders of Inventory Control, Specialty Packaging and Inbound/Outbound areas

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Supply Chain Manager position plans, directs, and coordinates the storage and distribution operations while maintaining a safe work environment; monitors the activities of employees engaged in receiving, storing, and distributing products.

Maintains a safe work environment

  • Plans, develops, and implements warehouse safety and security programs and activities
  • Prepares or directs preparation of safety literature, signage and protocols
  • Ensures that behaviors, practices and the work environment support a safe workplace by enforcing safety and sanitation rules and principles

Plans, directs, and coordinates the storage, inventory, purchasing, planning and distribution operations

  • Develops receiving, storing, inventory, purchasing, planning and distribution improvement plans and manages implementation through departmental leaders
  • Ensures and monitors receiving, storing, inventory, purchasing, planning and distributing efficiency
  • Uses metrics/data to evaluate and improve receiving, storing, inventory, purchasing, planning and distributing processes
  • Inspects receiving, storing, and distribution to provide coaching to area leadership and facilitate change through Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Coaches & Collaborates with departmental leaders to plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet performance standards
  • Uses standard work processes to ensure repeatable performance
  • Monitors receiving, storing, inventory, purchasing, planning and distributing goals and levels to make sure they are consistent with performance standards
  • Collaborates with other managers and supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments
  • Oversees the review of Material Usage Variance and collaborates with the Leadership team to reduce loss, increase yield and meet site budget.
  • Collaborates with site Leadership team to establish, maintain and meet site Capitol, MRO Spend, Material Usage Variance budgets as well as department labor budgets and staffing
  • Oversees the inspection of physical conditions of warehouses, vehicle fleets, or equipment and order testing, maintenance, repairs, or replacements

Leads and Develops Team Members

  • Provides and supports area leaders with personal development plans
  • Leads the Supply Chain team through an emphasis on both process and people
  • Communicates effectively with employees through both oral and written means
  • Directs team members involved in the receiving, storing, and distributing process
  • Coaches area leaders on a daily basis in the principles of effective receiving, storing, and distribution process
  • Conducts employee training to improve employees’ expertise and knowledge in equipment operations, work safety procedures, and teamwork, or assigns employee training to experienced workers
  • Coaches area leaders to provide feedback to employees on individual performance standards in a timely and efficient manner
  • Provides training to employees or ensures that all employees are adequately trained and engaged in developmental activities
  • Coach area leaders to track employees’ work performance and attendance to ensure performance metrics are met

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities; Education; and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of experience in a warehouse management or supervision role, preferably in the food processing industry
