Position Description

The Food Safety Coordinator will be responsible for developing, administering and maintaining applicable Food Safety Programs & Policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement, maintain, and improve SQF (Safety Quality Food) program and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Lead, coach and assist all departments in understanding, and maintaining Food Safety system requirements
  • Evaluate food safety concerns in the facility and implement programs to eliminate hazards.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop appropriate procedures and policies and provide training for all plant personnel in each department ensuring all employees are knowledgeable and responsible for upholding the principles the Company’s Food Safety programs
  • Manage Consumer Complaint database, tracking, reporting, trending and responses.
  • Manager and oversee the Sanitation Team and Pest Control activities.
  • Participate in third party audits and their preparation and follow up as assigned (SQF, Customer, and Regulatory)
  • Schedule and coordinate the company’s internal auditing process to ensure all areas in the plant are inspected, make certain non-conformities are issued and communicated to management staff for all GMP/H&S hazards and follow-up to ensure all NCR’s are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and conduct plant-wide training as well as specific plant employee training as it pertains to principles of Food Safety
  • Use qualitative and quantitative analysis to standardize operation, identify root causes, improve process, solve problems and manage risks associated with food safety and poor-quality product and the improper application of quality principles.
  • Hold regular meetings with HACCP Team and plant departments to ensure they are aware of internal audit findings, current status of the Food Safety System, and changes to the Food Safety System
  • Frequent communication with internal Sr. Management and external Customers, Third Party Auditors, Regulatory and Government bodies

Must have ability to identify and assess potential food safety hazards and quality defects

  • Ability to effectively train essential plant employees in HACCP principles and SQF principles
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to write SOPs and work instructions

Qualifications:

  • Must have HACCP and SQF certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Preference in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related Engineering field
  • 3 – 5 years practical experience in Food Safety or Quality Assurance/Control in a food manufacturing facility or laboratory
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to problem solve and perform root cause analysis

Technical Manager; Food & Regulatory Affairs – Canada

Technical Manager; Food & Regulatory Affairs

We are currently looking for a Technical Manager; Food & Regulatory Affairs who has a passion for the food industry with a strong focus on Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory knowledge.

  • Provide technical food service expertise to support all areas of the business.
  • Lead customized formulations from conception to commercialization.
  • Help to identify new formulas and processing conditions. Report progress cross functionally.
  • Responsible for assuring ingredients, formulas, labeling and packaging are in full compliance with laws and regulations in countries where product is sold
  • Work with the R&D Manager and team to review and approve packaging/label artwork for nutritional and regulatory compliance requirements such as font size, test placement, proper product names, claims, principle display panel, information panel, etc
  • Stay abreast of all laws, regulations and consumer demands, emerging technology, and marketing trends that impact our food categories.
  • Provide research and recommendations for issue as it relates to food safety, labeling and regulatory.
  • Demonstrate high organizational skills and excellence in planning, execution and tight timelines through project evaluation and use of resources available.

Requirements:

  • BSc or MSc in Food Science or Food Engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in food compliance, snack food, research & development; formulation and application; Food Manufacturing a must
  • Fundamental knowledge and extensive experience in project initiation, plan, and control.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel and Genesis and ability to learn other systems as needed.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as this position will interact with many internal and external contacts.

Job Title: Industrial Project Engineer

Main Duties:

  • Evaluate manufacturing processes applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labour, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.

Position Qualifications & Required Skills:

  • Diploma or Degree – Ideally in Process, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in food industry
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing process
  • Solid background with raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods is an asset
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with good time management skills
  • Ability to generate ideas, test their effectiveness and decide on a plan of action
  • Ability work collaboratively with cross functional departments
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
